Lights Out: Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 4, 2026
Lights Out is a reaction-time game for iPhone and iPad, made by Ryan Watkinson ("I", "me"). This policy explains what the app does with your information.
The short version: I don't collect your information. There are no accounts, no advertising, no tracking and no analytics in the app, and no third-party code that collects data. I never receive your reaction times, your history or anything that identifies you.
What stays on your device
These are stored on your iPhone or iPad and are not sent to me:
- your starts: the date, mode (Grand Prix, Qualifying or Daily), result and reaction time of each one, up to 5,000 (older ones are dropped, apart from your best);
- your settings (sound, haptics, theme and so on), your achievements progress and your racing license, which is worked out on the device from your history;
- the motion sensor is read while the license card is on screen, only to make its shine follow how you tilt the phone. It is never stored or sent anywhere.
Apple services the app uses
Lights Out connects to the internet only through Apple's own services. I don't run any servers for the app.
- iCloud (optional). If you're signed in to iCloud, the app keeps your history in step across your own devices using your private iCloud storage. Only you can read it, and I can't see it. You can turn this off in Options > Data > Sync History with iCloud.
- Game Center (optional). If you're signed in to Game Center, the app sends your best times and achievements to Apple's Game Center, and shows leaderboards and, if you've allowed it, the best times of your Game Center friends. Your Game Center name and times can be seen by other players on the leaderboards, as set in your Game Center settings. Game Center is run by Apple under Apple's privacy policy, and I don't receive your personal information from it.
- Purchases. The app is paid, and the tips are optional in-app purchases. Apple handles payment and I never see your payment details. A tip unlocks nothing.
- Sharing. If you choose to share a result or your license, the app makes a picture or some text and gives it to the iOS share sheet. Where it goes is up to you.
- App Store reports. If you've chosen to share analytics with app developers in your iOS settings (Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements), Apple may give me aggregated, anonymous statistics and crash reports. I can't identify you from them.
What I collect
Nothing. I don't collect, store, sell or share personal information, and the app doesn't track you across other apps or websites.
Keeping and deleting your information
- History: Options > Data > Clear History deletes every start from this device and, if iCloud sync is on, from your iCloud and your other devices. You can delete a single start from the History tab by swiping it. Deleting the app removes what is stored on the device; the copy in your iCloud stays until you clear it as above or delete it in Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Manage Storage.
- Game Center: your scores and achievements are held by Apple. You can manage them in Settings > Game Center, and request deletion of your Apple data at privacy.apple.com.
- Because I hold none of your information, there is nothing for me to delete, correct or hand over. If you think I do hold something about you, write to me (below) and I'll check and tell you.
Children
Lights Out is suitable for all ages. It doesn't knowingly collect information from anyone, including children, and it has no ads, chat or user-generated content.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date at the top. If the changes matter (for example, if the app ever started collecting something), I'll say so in the app's update notes too.
